Highlander Hybrids never need to be plugged in. They recharge on the go, using innovations like regenerative braking to capture and transform energy into electricity and store it in the battery.

Highlander's high-performance battery is designed to last. And Toyota hybrids require no additional routine maintenance. In fact, they follow the same maintenance schedule as our conventionally-powered vehicles.

Turns out you can take it with you. On Highlander Hybrid models, you can tow up to 3,500 lbs of cargo. On gas models, the available towing package allows you to take 5,000 lbs along for the ride. Features include: a heavy-duty radiator, engine oil cooler, and Trailer Sway Control (TSC) to restrict unwanted trailer movement.

Whenever you come to a full stop - like at a stop light - Highlander's engine automatically shuts off to save fuel and reduce emissions. Lift your foot from the brake pedal, and the engine instantly restarts, to get you effortlessly on your way.

Think of it as the ultimate multi-tasker. A Toyota-first, DTV-AWD can send up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels, then distributes power to the wheel that needs it most - enhancing stability, responsiveness and control. 

When it isn't needed, the system sends all driving force to the front wheels to improve fuel economy and deliver a smoother ride.

With a dedicated electric motor for the rear wheels, Hybrid models adapt based on driving conditions - from 100 percent to the front wheels, to an even 50:50 split between front and rear. 

It all happens seamlessly and automatically to give you better traction when the going gets tough, and performance that brings a smile when accelerating and cornering.

Take the guesswork out of parking. Standard on Limited and Platinum models, strategically placed sensors issue an audible warning alerting you to the presence and position of objects in and around your vehicle.

We've got you covered. The Toyota Highlander features dual stage airbags for driver and passenger as well as driver's knee, passenger seat cushion and side curtain airbags for all three rows.

At your service. Highlander's Blind Spot Monitor works to heighten your awareness on the road, alerting you to the presence of vehicles that have entered your blind spot on either side. While Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) helps you backup more confidently, warning you of approaching vehicles that may cross your path. Standard on Highlander LE grades and above.

Next level safety. Working in tandem with the ICS system, RCTB not only warns you of approaching cross traffic when backing up, but will automatically apply the brakes if the sensors determine that a collision is imminent. Standard on Limited and Platinum models.
